10 Popular Weight Loss Supplements and Pills

When you take weight loss supplements, you still need to concentrate on a proper diet and exercise.

1. Green Tea Extract

A popular ingredient in many weight loss supplements is green tea extract. It has proven the main antioxidant in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This antioxidant has fat-burning effects. In addition, green tea extract may increase the activity of norepinephrine.

Many studies show that green tea extract can lead to increased fat burning and fat loss, specifically in the abdominal area. However, drinking green tea should also have all the health benefits of green tea extracts.

4. Garcinia Cambogia Extract

Animal studies have shown that a fat producing enzyme can be inhibited in the body and the serotonin levels are increased, and reduces the appetite. In addition, a study in 130 people compared garcinia to a dummy pill. The weight or body fat percentage between groups was unchanged.

Another study on Garcinia Cambogia found that a weight loss of  2 pounds (0.88 kilograms) resulted from several weeks.

5. Orlistat (Alli) By Xenical

Orlistat is a pharmaceutical medicine, marketed under the Alli name, and prescribed under the Xenical name. This pill is effective, and it stops the fat from digestion. However, orlistat showed a slight reduction in blood pressure. In addition, orlistat prevented type 2 diabetes by 37%.

To minimize side effects, a low-fat diet is usually recommended when taking orlistat. It is interesting to note that a low-carb diet (without drugs) is equally effective as a combination of both orlistat and low-fat diet.

6. Green Coffee Bean Extract

Caffeine can increase fat burning, while chlorogenic acid can slow the carbohydrate breakdown in the stomach. Many human studies have shown that green coffee beans extract can help people lose weight. However, green coffee extract lost 5.4 pounds higher than the group took a dummy pill.

Extract of green coffee beans can reduce blood glucose levels and lower blood pressure. Most importantly, it is high in anti-oxidants. Side effects such as diarrhea noticed in certain people allergic to green coffee beans.

7. Glucomannan Dietary Fiber

Glucomannan is a fiber that is also called konjac in the roots of the elephant foot yam. It sits in your gut and helps you eat fewer calories, thus promoting a feeling of fullness. Studies show that glucomannan can help people lose 8-10 pounds within 5 weeks with a combination of a healthy diet.

Glucomannan is a fiber capable of feeding friendly intestinal bacteria. Blood sugar, blood cholesterol, and triglycerides may be reduced, and it is very effective for constipation.

8. Raspberry Ketones

Raspberry ketone is an ingredient accountable for a distinct smell of raspberries. However, a synthetic version of raspberry ketones is available in the form of a weight loss supplements. In addition, raspberry ketones increase the fat separation in isolated fat cells of the rats. It can increase adiponectin hormone levels.

There is no human study on raspberry ketone available. However, one rat study with massive doses showed a result in weight loss.

9. Meratrim Dietary Pills

These dietary pills are new in the market. It is a combination of two herbal extracts which may alter the fat cell metabolism. However, only one study on Meratrim has been carried out. They have given 100 obese people a strict 2000 calory diet, either with Meratrim or with a dummy pill.

After 8 weeks, they lost 11 pounds of weight and 4.7 inches of waistline. There were also improvements in their blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides levels. Most importantly, there were no reported side effects.

10. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)

Conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, has long been a popular fat loss supplement. It is one of the most wholesome trans fat, and it is naturally available in certain fatty animal foods such as cheese and butter. In addition, CLA can reduce appetite, boost metabolism, and encourage body fat breakdown process.

CLA has caused a weight loss of approximately 0.2 pounds per week for up to six months. Particularly compared to the dummy pill, CLA can make you lose about 3 lbs more weight. However, it is harmful and may increase inflammation over the long term.
